Lance Ford

Lance Ford is an author, speaker, and leadership coach who has spent more than three decades as a pastor and church planter inviting leaders to stop carrying what was never theirs to carry — and to shift the weight of leadership back onto the shoulders of Jesus.

The Work

Three decades on the frontlines

Holding a Master’s Degree in Global Leadership from Fuller Theological Seminary, Lance has spent his career on the frontlines of both church planting and leadership reform. He served as Director of the Northwood Church Multiplication Center, co-founded Shapevine.com with Christianity Today, co-founded the Sentralized Conference in Kansas City, and has served as an adjunct professor at Biblical Seminary. He has designed training systems currently in use by networks, seminaries, and leaders around the world.

Lance is the author of nine books, including UnLeader, The Starfish and the Spirit (with Alan Hirsch and Rob Wegner), The Missional Quest, Missional Essentials, Next Door as It Is in Heaven, Revangelical, Right Here Right Now (with Alan Hirsch), and his most recent, The Atlas Factor: Shifting Leadership Onto the Shoulders of Jesus. He has written widely for Christianity Today, Outreach Magazine, Relevant, and others, and co-hosts The Starfish and the Church podcast with Rob Wegner. He is also a regular contributor to The Roys Report and a featured speaker at the Restore Conference, where he has brought his decades of pastoral experience to bear on the systems of leadership that harm the church.

The Atlas Factor and its Companion Course are the culmination of Lance’s life’s work — the theological convictions, field-tested practices, and hard-won wisdom of someone who has lived inside broken leadership systems, studied what the New Testament actually says about authority and structure, and built a framework to help leaders find their way out. This isn’t theory. It’s the road map he’s spent thirty years drawing.
